The Hill Gas Fitting Services
Pick the card that fits your job:
Gas Appliance Installation: a new cooktop in a terrace kitchen or a barbecue on a balcony, joined to the supply with a compliance certificate at the end.
What does a licensed gas fitter do?
A licensed gas fitter handles every job where gas meets a pipe or an appliance:
- Running new gas lines and extending existing ones to a kitchen, balcony or pool
- Hooking up cooktops, wall ovens, barbecues and pool heaters, and capping off old units
- Locating leaks with gas detectors and repairing the faulty section
- Testing and commissioning every line so the installation is certified
- Repairing gas hot water units and swapping dead systems for new ones
If a job touches gas, it needs a licence, and the certification has to be done by the person who did the work. That is the whole of it.
How do you know a line needs attention?
Watch for these before anything fails outright:
- A cooktop flame that has turned yellow or orange rather than blue
- A faint sulphur smell near the meter, a line or an appliance
- A faint hiss near a fitting once the TV and fridge are off
- A pilot or burner that drops out and refuses to relight
Any of those is worth a call straight away. A detector pass settles whether the line is sound or a repair is needed, and you hear the price for that before we start.

How the booking runs
- 01
Ring or send the form
Call (02) 4063 1093 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.
- 02
A fixed price first
A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.
- 03
The gas work itself
We trace the existing line, carry out the repair or set the appliance, then test the run under pressure and commission it before anything is signed off.
- 04
Covered for a year
Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.
What changes the cost of gas work?
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.
Your price comes down to four things:
- The wall it runs through Chasing a line through double-brick or stone in a Victorian terrace is slower work than clipping it to a stud frame.
- The run Longer pipe runs and new materials cost more than connecting an appliance to an existing point.
- What you are connecting Feeding a pool heater takes heavier pipe and more metres than swapping one cooktop for another.
- The hour Evening or weekend gas work carries the after-hours rate, named in the quote.
What Customers Say
We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested
When We're Not the Right Call
A leak at the meter or in the street belongs to the gas network, so ring their emergency line first. If your oven's igniter or the power point behind the cooktop has failed, that fix needs an electrician, not a gas fitter.
Gas questions from the ridge
Do I need a licensed gas fitter to install a cooktop in The Hill?
Yes. In NSW a cooktop, oven or BBQ joined to a gas supply has to be connected by someone holding a gas licence, who then signs a compliance certificate. Our fitter makes the connection, proves it tight and lodges that certificate.
How can I tell if there is a gas leak in my unit?
Three giveaways. A rotten-egg odour inside the flat, a faint hiss at a joint, or burners showing lazy yellow tips instead of a crisp blue cone. Open the windows, leave light switches alone, and ring us or the network's emergency line.
Does sea air damage outdoor gas pipework on the clifftop streets?
It can. The Hill sits high above the Tasman with a lot of salt in the breeze, and bare steel fittings outside corrode sooner in it. We choose coated or corrosion-rated parts and look over the old pipework before joining anything new to it.
What gas appliances can you install here?
Kitchen cooktops and ovens, balcony barbecues, pool heaters, and gas water heaters of the storage or continuous-flow kind. We check the supply pipe is big enough for the new load, test it under pressure, then light and tune the burners before the certificate is written.
